Youth Protection Training
is required for all adult leaders working with youth.
Youth Protection Training is now available online
right on the web so you can take the training at your convenience at home or
at work. All Pack 83 parents are strongly encouraged to take the online
course.
Youth Protection Training will continue to be offered "In Person",
however the sessions are held quarterly only. If you do want to take the
in-person training, please ee the Pacific Skyline Council calendar for training
dates and locations.
Fast Start training is the
first step for any new adult volunteer in a Pack, Troop or Exploring Crew, no
matter what position you are volunteering to serve in. The Fast Start training
is short and should be taken as soon as possible after you have accepted a
leadership position.
The Fast Start program has been designed to provide an immediate
comfort level for new leaders and enables them to say, "I can do this!", but
it can be followed later by more comprehensive training.
For new leaders of Cub Scout and Boy Scout units, there are two options
of how you can take Fast Start training: by viewing a video
or by taking the on-line course. Some packs and troops
may designate a trainer to support the new leader during this training
period.
Video
There is a video tape which can be checked out from either your
unit or from the Scout Service Center. This tape can be viewed at
your convenience. Ask for the "Cub Scout Leader Fast Start
video, No. AV-01V022" and the "Cub Scout Fast Start
Viewer Guide, No. AV-01G022" at any Scout
Shop.
Online
Fast Start training may be accomplished by taking an on-line course. The
Fast Start training for leaders of Cub Scout units is at http://www.scouting.org/cubscouts/faststart/
The on-line version is
broken up into several modules and does not have to be taken all at the
same time. It takes about the same amount of time to work through
all the on-line modules of the Fast Start training as it does to view the
video version in its entirety. When you have successfully completed
the on-line version, the Council is automatically notified of this, and
your records are appropriately updated.
All leaders should take this class, and any parent can take
this class as well to be more effective in his or her volunteer role for the
pack.
Adult Leader Basic Training is comprised of the New Leader Essentials
and Position Specific Training programs when taken together. A
leader is considered "trained" when in addition to New Leader Essentials and
the Position Specific Training, he or she has participated in Youth
Protection Training. This level of training is required for all Cub
Scout Leader awards.
The Adult Leader Basic Training program is an in-person class
only. Complete information and online registration is available at the
Adult Basic Leader Training
site.
